Day 1 | 7 Kilometres
After picking you up from your Exmouth accommodation, we kit up and head into Cape Range National Park, beginning our journey alongside the striking red cliffs of Yardie Creek Gorge. It’s along these ancient rock faces that we often spot the rare Black-flanked Rock Wallabies, ospreys nesting on high ledges, and wedge-tailed eagles riding the thermals above.
As we climb higher into the range, the land opens up—the red ramparts of Cape Range falling away to the turquoise sweep of Ningaloo Reef and the Indian Ocean beyond. We follow hidden gullies and rarely-travelled ridgelines to reach our exclusive high camp, perched in a remote and rugged corner of the range.
Camp
Once packs are down and camp is set, we settle in and take in the view—reef, range, and endless sky. There’s time to rest, breathe, and truly absorb the isolation and beauty of this place.
As the sun drops below the horizon, the sky glows in layers of gold and rose. We keep an eye out for humpback whales cruising offshore, enjoy a hot, hearty meal, and then lie back beneath a crystal-clear Milky Way, with nothing but the quiet of wild country around us.
It’s the kind of night you’ll never forget—raw, remote, and deeply connected to land and sea.
Day 2 | 8 Kilometres
As first light washes over the range, we rise to the sounds of the bush coming alive. After a relaxed breakfast and coffee with a view, we break camp and begin our descent through ancient wave-cut limestone terraces, sculpted by an ocean that once covered this land.
Crossing the coastal plains, we keep our eyes peeled—Red Kangaroos and Euros (Common Wallaroos) are often seen moving through this rugged country. And if we’re lucky, we might catch a glimpse of the Short-beaked Echidna quietly foraging among the spinifex.
With the reef drawing closer on the horizon, we make our way over the coastal dunes until the ocean greets us. Then, boots off. We step into the crystal-clear waters of the Ningaloo lagoon—a refreshing dip that marks the end of our inland journey.
Afterwards, we beachcomb our way along untouched shoreline, before meeting our waiting vehicle for the return to Exmouth.
You’ll leave feeling lighter, recharged, and deeply connected to a landscape few ever get to walk this way.

As we begin our trek to the top of the range in the late morning/early afternoon, daytime temperatures at certain times of the year can reach above 30°C.
